Volkmann's Ischemic Contracture : A Case Report

Abstract
V.I.C.(Volkmann's Ischemic contracture) is the result of complex symptoma caused by circulatory disturbance of the muscles and nerves in closed osseofascial compartments because of build up of tissue fluid pressure within the compartments.
The V.I.C. has been linked compartment syndrome, overuse of hypnotics, compression injury, and CO poisoning.
Childrens are affected more frequently than adults.
The most commonly involved artery is anterior interosseous artery, and most commonly involved muscles are flexor digitorum profundus and flexor pollicis longus.
The operation techniques are muscle sliding operation, tendon transfer, free muscle flap, tendon lengthening, neurolysis, and excision of necrotized muscle, etc.
We experienced one case of V.I.C. arter supracondylar fracture by fall down. The patient was treated by muscle sliding operation and result was good. We report it with a brief review of literatures.
